What newcomers should know

  • Hurricane season runs June 1 to Nov. 30. The Woodlands is about 80 miles inland, so storms usually arrive as wind and heavy rain rather than surge. Hurricane Beryl in July 2024 knocked out power across much of Montgomery County for days.
  • Occasional hard freezes. Winter Storm Uri in February 2021 closed schools and roads. Insulating exposed pipes is a good habit.
  • Heavy spring storms. Afternoon thunderstorms and occasional street flooding are common in late spring.
  • Pine pollen. Expect a yellow-green coat on cars each spring.
  • Plan for the heat. Locals walk the trails early in the morning in summer and head to the Township pools in the afternoon.
