Village profiles

A wooded pathway in Grogan's Mill

Grogan's Mill

Opened 1974

The first village opened with The Woodlands itself and is often called the gateway to the community. Expect towering pines, established homes on larger, wooded lots, and quick access to Town Center. It's home to The Woodlands Resort and its golf courses, Tamarac and Sawmill parks, the Saturday farmers market at the Grogan's Mill Village Center, and the new Kevin Brady Library and Community Center.

Northshore Park on Lake Woodlands

Panther Creek

Opened 1977

The second village takes its name from the creek that forms Lake Woodlands, its eastern edge. Lakefront and wooded homes sit minutes from Market Street and The Waterway. Northshore Park, the lake's main gathering lawn, and The Woodlands Children's Museum are here.

A golf course green

Cochran's Crossing

Opened 1983

Named for the Cochran family who co-owned the original lumber company, Cochran's Crossing is nicknamed "the happy village." It's home to The Woodlands Country Club and its Palmer course, The Woodlands Recreation Center, the Shadowbend YMCA, and Bear Branch and Shadowbend parks.

Wooded lots among the pines

Indian Springs

Opened 1984

Named for Native American artifacts found on the land, Indian Springs is one of the smaller villages. It's known for something rare here: gentle elevation changes. Wooded custom homes, Falconwing Park and Pool, and the Indian Springs Village Center round it out.

A school and sports fields

Alden Bridge

Opened 1994

Named after a former developer president's Louisiana hometown, Alden Bridge is one of the largest villages, with thousands of homes across dozens of neighborhoods and a wide range of price points. Alden Bridge Sports Park is the youth-sports hub, and the Township has planned a $17.8 million remodel there. The Woodlands Christian Academy is also in the village.

Homes near the College Park campuses

College Park

Opened 1995

Named for the higher-education campuses inside it: Lone Star College–University Center, Sam Houston State University's Woodlands Center, and The Woodlands College Park High School. Several hospitals cluster here, along with active-adult communities and the Harper's Landing and Grogan's Forest neighborhoods.

A golf course in Sterling Ridge

Sterling Ridge

Opened 1999

Opened the year of the community's 25th, or "sterling," anniversary, Sterling Ridge sits on the west side and surrounds the gated Carlton Woods. You'll find a village center, the George and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Library, a YMCA and the Player golf course. The May Valley section is zoned to Magnolia ISD.

Rob Fleming Aquatic Center

Creekside Park

Opened 2007

The final village opened along Spring Creek. It's the only village in Harris County and the only one zoned to Tomball ISD. Highlights include the 1,700-acre George Mitchell Nature Preserve, Rob Fleming Park and Aquatic Center, and the Creekside Park Village Green, a walkable center with an H-E-B and a splash pad. Its tax rate is the highest in The Woodlands, largely because of its Harris County and MUD rates.

The Waterway and Lake Woodlands

Town Center and East Shore

The shared downtown

Town Center is the urban heart: The Woodlands Mall, Market Street, The Waterway, Hughes Landing and The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Homes range from apartments and townhomes to East Shore, often called the "Garden District," with lake access and an annual HOA fee of $1,800–$3,000.

Notable neighborhoods

  • Carlton Woods: a gated, guarded community with The Club at Carlton Woods' Jack Nicklaus course. A second section, Carlton Woods Creekside, adds a Tom Fazio course.
  • East Shore: lakeside homes and brownstones within walking distance of Hughes Landing and The Waterway.
  • Windsor Hills: a smaller enclave with a monthly HOA fee of about $275.
  • Windsor Lakes: uses The Woodlands name but sits in the City of Conroe, so it pays Conroe city tax instead of Township tax.
